Information
This measure (Articles 1 and 2 thereof) provides for a set of requirements for registration, licensing and issuance of permits to import into the territory of the Philippines optical and magnetic media products, as well as its related manufacturing equipment and materials, as listed in Section 13 of Republic Act No. 9239, otherwise known as the ‘Optical Media Act of 2003’. The objective of this measure is to regulate the proliferation of hard disk drives and optical media writers or drives to the open market, which are innovatively being used today as alternative media and mechanisms to store, transfer, and write audio and video files in bigger quantities. In addition, this measure also ensures that the imported products meet the technical requirements provided in relevant legislation.
